The Bardenas Reales Desert<\/strong>, located in the south-east of Navarre, is one of the most striking landscapes in Spain - and even in Europe.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udfdc\ufe0f A desert like no other<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Surface area<\/strong> : Approximately 42,000 hectares of semi-arid land, sculpted by erosion.<\/li>\n
  • Status<\/strong> : Natural park since 1999 and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve<\/strong> since 2000.<\/li>\n
  • Climate<\/strong> : Scorching summers (up to 45\u00b0C), cold winters, very little rainfall \u2014 a true European desert.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \ud83c\udf0b Lunar landscapes and distinct areas<\/p>\n

    The desert is divided into three main zones:<\/p>\n

    • The Bardena Blanca<\/strong> : the most emblematic, with its badlands, ravines, fairy chimneys like the famous Castildetierra<\/em>.<\/li>\n
    • The Bardena Negra<\/strong> : more wooded, with pine forests and green plateaus.<\/li>\n
    • El Plano<\/strong> : agricultural area to the north, milder and cultivated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      \ud83e\udd85 Fauna and flora<\/p>\n

      Despite its austere appearance, the Bardenas are home to :<\/p>\n

      • The griffon vultures<\/strong>, foxes<\/strong>, wild boars<\/strong>, and a wide variety of migratory birds.<\/li>\n
      • A flora adapted to drought, but capable of spectacular blooms in spring<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        \ud83d\udc11 Human History<\/p>\n

          \n
        • Ancestral pastoralism<\/strong> : Pyrenean herds have spent the winter there for centuries.<\/li>\n
        • Legendary banditry<\/strong> : the outlaw Sanchicorrota<\/em>, nicknamed \u201cKing of the Bardenas\u201d, found refuge there in the Middle Ages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          This place is a true western setting, often used for filming, and offers a complete change of scenery just two hours from the French border.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
