Fond\u00e9e en 1968 par une Fran\u00e7aise, Mirra Richard, mieux connue sous le nom de La M\u00e8re, compagne spirituelle du philosophe indien Sri Aurobindo, Auroville a pour ambition d'\u00eatre, selon les mots de sa fondatrice, un lieu de vie communautaire universelle o\u00f9 hommes et femmes apprennent \u00e0 vivre en paix, dans une harmonie parfaite, au-del\u00e0 de toutes croyances, opinions politiques et nationalit\u00e9s. Aujourd'hui, les r\u00e9sidents d'Auroville proviennent d'une trentaine de pays et sont organis\u00e9s en plusieurs unit\u00e9s de travail, telles que l'agriculture, l'informatique, l'\u00e9ducation,
