🔥 Volcanic activity

  • The volcano is still active, with regular eruptions recorded since the beginning of the 20th century.
  • The last notable activity took place between March 1999 and June 2000.
  • The fumaroles still escape from the ground, and the inhabitants use the natural heat to cook eggs or bananas, a fun local tradition.

🚶‍♂️ Ascent and experience

  • Climbing Mount Batur is one of the Bali's most popular hikes, especially at sunrise.
  • Departure is generally around 3 or 4 in the morning, to reach the summit before dawn.
  • Once at the summit, the spectacle is magical: the sky turns pink and orange, revealing the contours of the Mount Agung in the distance and the mists floating over the lake.
  • The hike is moderate, accessible to anyone in good physical condition.
