Welcome to the Mekong Delta

🏞️ Mekong Delta: The Kingdom of the Nine Dragons

📍 Location

  • Located at thefar south of Vietnam, the Mekong Delta extends over more than 40,000 km², where the Mekong River ends its course after crossing China, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia.
  • It is divided into nine main arms before flowing into the South China Sea - hence its Vietnamese name Cửu Long, which means “Nine Dragons”.

🌿 Landscapes and atmosphere

  • The delta is a labyrinth of rivers, canals, arroyos, rice fields and tropical orchards.
  • There we find coconut trees, mango trees, durians, rambutans, and fields of glittering rice as far as the eye can see.
  • The atmosphere is soft, moist and languid, with a special light that envelops the floating villages and colorful markets.

🚤 Daily life and traditions

  • The inhabitants live to the rhythm of the water : transport, trade, fishing, agriculture.
  • The floating markets as Cái Răng or Phong Điền are emblematic places, where boats are overflowing with fruits, vegetables, fish and smiles.
  • The houses on stilts, the sampan rides, and the homestays allow you to discover a warm and resilient culture.

🕌 Culture and diversity

  • The delta is a ethnic mosaic : Viet (Kinh), Khmer, Chinese, Cham… each with its own pagodas, temples, languages and customs.
  • Places like Trà Vinh or Sóc Trăng shelter magnificent Khmer pagodas, with their saffron-robed monks and Buddhist ceremonies.
  • The region is also rich in local crafts : bricks, coconut candies, braided mats, ceramics.

🍜 Gastronomy

  • Generous and fragrant cuisine:
  • Grilled Elephant Ear Fish, hủ tiếu soup, sticky rice with coconut milk,
  • Fresh tropical fruits on every river corner,
  • And culinary hospitality which makes every meal a moment of sharing.

🐦 Nature and biodiversity

  • The delta is home to protected wetlands, like the Trà Sư Bird Park, where we can observe storks, herons, and migratory birds.
  • It is also a region sensitive to seasonal floods, which nourish the land but require a constant adaptation residents.
