🏝️ Holbox: the island of turquoise waters and magical sunsets

📍 Location

• Holbox (pronounced Hol-bosh) is located at the northern tip of the Yucatán Peninsula, in the state of Quintana Roo, where the Gulf of Mexico meet the Caribbean Sea.
• She is part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve, a protected area rich in biodiversity.

🌿 Atmosphere and natural setting

• The island measures approximately 42 km long and 2 km wide, without asphalt roads: the streets are covered with white sand, and we move there at bike or in golf cart.
• The atmosphere is relaxed, bohemian and colorful, with artistic murals, the leaning palm trees, and a gentle and quiet vibration.
• The beaches are immaculate, bordered by shallow waters at turquoise and emerald shades, perfect for swimming or relaxing.

🐠 Activities and natural wonders

• Swimming with whale sharks (May to September): an unforgettable experience with the largest fish in the world, peaceful and majestic.
• Observe bioluminescence at Punta Cocos: at night, the water sparkles under the effect of luminous microorganisms - a magical spectacle.
• Explore the mangroves by kayak, observe the flamingos, the migratory birds, and sometimes even dolphins.
• Kitesurfing, paddle boarding, or simply swinging in a hammock by the water.

🏘️ Local life and culture

• The main village is small but lively, with artisanal coffees, the seafood restaurants, the art galleries, and an atmosphere warm and friendly.
• The inhabitants are proud of their island and their Caribbean identity, between Mexican traditions and island influences.
• There we find a simple and tasty gastronomy : fresh ceviche, fish tacos, tropical cocktails, and local craft beer.
