Fort Victor Emmanuel

Welcome to Fort Victor Emmanuel

From the D1006, park at the Redoute car park near the Devil's Park. The Redoute Marie-Thérèse citadel is located at an altitude of approximately 1,250 meters. An exceptional discovery of the Esseillon fortified barrier. This stronghold was built between 1817 and 1834. Its mission was to guard the road to Mont Cenis. It has been open to the public since 2007. The visit can be done independently or with a guide.

Then you can walk down to the Devil's Bridge, which overlooks the Arc Gorges from 80 meters, to reach Fort Victor-Emmanuel, located at an altitude of approximately 1,350 meters, via the Esseillon trails. Fort Victor Emmanuel is the largest fort in the Esseillon barrier. It is built with vaulted ceilings that can withstand bombs. Entrances are via a drawbridge. Its construction follows the principle of the system of General Marquis de Montalembert (1714 – 1800).

The bravest among you can try the zip line which passes impressively through these gorges at a height of more than 150 metres.

A Via Ferrata exists, it's the Devil's Via Ferrata. A dizzying route above the Arc Gorges, combining 8 independent sections for a total loop of 3,760 meters. It's the longest Via Ferrata in France. Information is available at the Savoie Maurienne guides' office.
