Coc Xa That Khé

Welcome to the Coc Xa Valley to That Khé route

This morning, we take a short motorcycle ride along more or less passable roads to the Dong Khé basin. In this peaceful village on Colonial Route 4, we have lunch at a local restaurant. We also find high-quality silver jewelry there.

In 1950, nearly 5,000 French people died here in the battles of the Indochina War.
After our meal, we set off with our backpacks to reach the Coc Xa Valley. After the pass in the hamlet of Dao, we will be welcomed into a local home for dinner and overnight stay. A splendid exotic wooden house on stilts, where it is pleasant to walk barefoot on the precious wooden floor. The family raises pigs, cows, chickens, geese, and cultivates rice. We are treated to a majestic dinner. We spend pleasant and unforgettable moments with our hosts.
The next morning, the rooster wakes us up. Our hosts prepare for their daily farm chores.
After lunch, we thank our hosts and, with our backpacks, we head towards the pass to descend the Coc Xa basin towards That Khé to the river.
On our way, as we pass a rice farmer's house, a woman invites us to drink tea. As we continue our journey, unfortunately, leeches await our passage again and cling to our shoes to climb up to our calves.
After a 3-hour walk, we can wash and clean ourselves in the river just at the entrance to the village of That Khé.
In the village, after a drink at a terrace, we take a vehicle to Lang Son and spend the night in a comfortable hotel. As we pass the hotel reception, people stare at us because, despite being cleaned in the river, we are in a pitiful state. We were able to make ourselves look better, but the meal will no longer have the same flavor as at a local's house.
